Description
With the arrival of a new skull I thought I'd finally make a comparison of all my Felinae (small cats) skulls. Felines are some of my favorite animals and I really love collecting their skulls, although most species are hard to find so I'll probably have to purchase some replica's too in the future. And felines are some of the most protected animals and their skulls are often without paperwork, but lucky me: I live close to two taxidermy shops/taxidermists, who get their animals from zoos !
So, from left to right:
- Species: Asian Leopard Cat (Prionailurus bengalensis)
Origin: breeder/captivity
Length: 8 cm (so tiny!)
Sex: unknown
- Species: Domestic cat (Felis sylvestris catus)
Origin: unknown
Length: 8,5 cm
Sex: Unknown (male?)
- Species: Bobcat (Lynx rufus)
Origin: Zoo/Captivity
Length: 10 cm
Sex: Female (?)
- Species: Serval (Leptailurus serval)
Origin: Captivity?
Length: 11 cm
Sex: Unknown
- Species: Fishing Cat (Prionailurus viverrinus)
Origin: Zoo/Captivity
Length: 11,5 cm
Sex: Female
- Species: Ocelot (Leopardus pardalis)
Origin: Unknown, antique specimen
Length: 10,5 cm
Sex: unknown, juvenile
And in the last picture, you can see them with the largest feline skull ever found, an American Lion (replica)
All skulls have required paperwork proving their legal origin! Most were zoo specimens and they were not killed for their skulls.
